Visitors to the Garden

In the last few days, we’ve had visitors in the garden. Some didn’t knock on the door, but they did leave their calling cards to let us know they came around.

I can guess who made those holes, but what creature did the work below?

Birds are always welcome in the garden. Ducks, too.

Other visitors are not welcome at all.

 

One pair may be ok, but not more than that, please!
Oh, no, the Canada geese are back!

 

One pair would not be awful but a short time later, I spotted four more. And where six Canada geese gather together, more will certainly come.

The best visitors, though, were people who kept well away from my husband and me. We could hear them laughing, though — clearly they were having fun.

I have happy memories of playing croquet as a child and I am happy to see my daughter and her family following suit.

My friend, the film-maker Tony Girardin, sent me a photo he took a few days ago when crossing the border between Vancouver and Seattle. He thought I might like it. And I do. A lot. At first I couldn't figure it out. Was it a drawing? A painting? No, a sculpture, Tony said. A quick on-line search and I discovered that the swarm of bees flying away from that enormous empty space are welded steel rods. Non Sign II, by the Seattle artist and architect collaborative called Lead Pencil Studio, is a billboard advertising nothing.
